I picked up a 3 year license for the 5 device "Total Security 201x" on sale for I think roughly $75ish about a year ago on Avangate so if you catch a sale their prices aren't bad at all. I will admit, Bitdefender's full scan times are a little long and the UI could definitely use some work, but otherwise it is a pretty solid product in my experience.īack to question: Have you tried doing a full uninstall, reboot, and then reinstall? I have experienced a bad installation with the free version in the past that had similar issues on my parents laptop and removing it and then reinstalling fixed the problem. But then again I use the paid version, so that could be the difference. Personally, as someone that uses Bitdefender, I've never had an issue. I think WannaCry and NotPytra are perfect examples of the importance of having good active protection.
However, it is never a bad idea to have some form of active malware protection as a single worm can royally mess things up. Malwarebytes free version and HitManPro are excellent secondary anti-malware products to have for periodic scanning when you think you might already be infected. In fact, I think I remember reading somewhere that other anti-malware products like Emsisoft use Bitdefender's engine because of it's strength in detecting previously unknown malware. How so? Most lab tests of Bitdefender constantly have it at or near the top of the pack when it comes to protections and performance. Norton, McAffee, and *shudder* Webroot come to mind among others.
While Bitdefender is just bad, some of these are basically viruses in and of themselves. But if you do want a proper antivirus, Vipre, Avira, and Avast are usually what I recommend. I don't bother with active virus protection, I've found Malwarebytes' free version and common sense is enough for me. I'm Toastmaster again next week, and my workaround is to use my phone camera, which doesn't work nearly as well.Bitdefender is pretty trash IMO, there are definitely better options. Is there a setting somewhere under the hood that I need to change? BitDefender updated recently, so I'm guessing it's something to do with that.

I'm running Antivirus Plus - so it's not even that I'm using the free version. So all of the solutions I'm finding online aren't going to work, because I can't turn off a control that isn't available to me.

Should be an easy fix, especially when I found these instructions. Google fu turned up that it's apparently Bitdefender blocking the camera. Using the Webcam app in Windows, the camera turns on. In Zoom, I'm getting that yellow box error 'Failed to Start the Video Camera.' I've been using Discord and Zoom with this MEE USB camera for awhile now with no problem, and on the day I'm chairing a Zoom meeting, Zoom stops recognizing the camera today.
